ABOUT ME

After doing several workshops and classes in silversmithing and stone-setting, I fell in love with making jewellery. I like to create beautifully simple pieces and take inspiration from the shapes and textures I see around me every day in both the natural and man-made world. Particular inspiration comes from the sea and coast, architecture, all kinds of flora, buttons (I LOVE buttons!)and anything in an art deco style! One day I can be obsessed with the patterns  showing on leaves and the next with the ironwork on a bridge.

The sustainability of my work is important to me and I use recycled silver and gold, sustainable packaging (FSC® certified & recycled/recyclable). I love to use gem stones in my work but the issues behind sourcing ethical gem stones are complex. To be completely honest, I am still trying to navigate this area, and trying to educate myself to be able to balance the ethical politics of a country, environmental impacts, working conditions/health and safety and ensuring trade for those who depend on the mining of gemstones to make a living.

My full-time job as a Coastal Planner keeps me busy. In brief, my main role is to secure consents for coastal flood and erosion management schemes.  My jewellery making therefore happens mainly evenings and weekends! In my (limited) spare time outside of coastal schemes and making jewellery I love to get out and about in my camper van (an old 1986 VW T25), being in the sea, gardening and playing in a brass band!
